Design Notes
Feathers & Fishhooks is my proudest project from Type & Image during the Spring 2022 semester at UIUC. We were assigned a random artist and album name, and tasked with creating album covers (front & back), vinyl art, and a tour poster. All copy was predetermined and given to us at the start of the project. Some requirements were: Photography only (no illustrations). Imagery must be manipulated and/or distorted in some way (think: collage, photomontage, distortion, filters, coloring, etc) Sounds like: Deathcab for Cutie, The Decemberists, and The Shins (my project only).
My approach was to lean into the imaginary artist of "Slingshot Jenny" and her debut studio album. By putting her in the forefront I was then able hone in on imagery of the bullseye. I then built the background scenery to match the melancholy and alternative sound of the provided "sounds like" artists. To this day, this is one of the most fun projects I have worked on.
